clonodine question

DS is on Adderall for ADHD and clonodine for sleep. It has nver worked fabulous - still took 1-1 1/2 hours to fall asleep, but that was better than before. Now though it seems to be working less and less and I am seriously thinking of trying melatonin. I asked the pediatrician today and he says he doesn't know enough about it to voice an opinion. What I forgot to ask though is this - if I do decide to go with the melatonin is it safe to just stop the clonodine? He is only taking one pill (0.1 mg) at night. Any eperienced moms that can help? TIA Patti

My son takes clonodine and will soon not be taking it. The first few months it worked great and now he is on .2mg and 38lb and it's still not working. This is the max for his weight. He is in the process of switching meds and clonodine is one that will be going.

Just my experience

My son took it for a long while. It did do the job in getting him to sleep, but he never stayed there. He woke up once or twice a night. I did have to give it to him at 6:30 or 7 for him to be sleepy enough at 8:30 or 9.

When we took him off the doc wanted us to go slow, he only took 1 pill at night. We 1/2 that pill for a few days then stopped giving it to him. We have never tried melatonin. Just be careful when using suppliments, esp with kids. Go slow is the best idea. Joiner now takes Seroquel and that has been the best for his sleep. He even stays asleep!!!!! Altho sometimes it takes hima bit longer to fall asleep, so I try to give it to him at 6 or 6:30. Have you tried Bennedryl?? I have a friend who has used that for a few years & her doc says it is just fine that she use it.

Good luck in what ever you try. I know when my son doesn't get enough sleep he's a bear the next day!!

We've used benedryl in the past. It is no longer effective for him. Once he's asleep he sleeps great, but it can be 1:00 or 2:00 before he falls asleep without something.
