Concerta dosages?

My son, almost 11 has been on Concerta for about 4-5 months now. He is up to 36mg. We see improvement but not enough. If I tell the doc, he will want to move him up and that is not an option now as he barely eats and has problems with impulsivity from his Zoloft. It is a fine line. Since summer is coming, we will stay at the current dose. I was wondering if anyone out there has any Concerta stories to tell?My son is short but only weighs 65 lbs at 11, and he metabolizes very fast.

We had similar issues with Concerta. Our son had terrible appetite and needed a higher dosage. Rather than upping the Concerta, the doctor had him try Focalin, which is supposed to be similar but not affect appetite as much. We learned through that experiment that our son just genuinely doesn't like to eat (runs in DH's family). He also processes Focalin very, very quickly and it konked out by noon. We ended up returning to Concerta and increasing the dosage and all went better.

You might see if Focalin is a good alternative for your son. The doctor was pretty surprised that it didn't work out well for our son.

Good luck!

One thing our doctor explained to us is that the Concerta XR delivery system sometimes does not work well in children.

My middle son was on Concerta for almost 7 years.

Hi

DD takes Concerta 27 mgs, on school days. We used to use 15 mgs Daytrana, but DD is in athletics, and was concerned about the kids seeing her patch when they cahnged before and after. Since it is on her hip it shows.

She does extremely well on Concerta, and we have not upped the dose in a while, but I do see it coming next school year..

A child may HAVE ADHD, but it is not what they ARE. Never tell a child they ARE ADHD.

We have tried Focalin XR and my son was a zombie all day. Did nothing. we have Focalin short release for after school but he refuses to take it so far. The Concerta seems to be holding through school and he comes down right after school and has mood swings for an hour then does his homework and guitar(sometimes). I think we are going to stay here at the 36 dose
