Concerta/Metadate

HI all. My DS is on Concerta currently. He has been having problems with having diarrhea. I just look it up more in depth and found out it has lactose in it...he is lactose intolerant! No wonder he has been having this problem while on it! Anyway, I know metadate is similar. Does anyone know if it is just as good? He is wearing a patch today, but we don't like his moods on them. He gets all down on himself and doesn't seem like a boy. If we go down in dosage, he is out of control. I am thinking metadate is the way to go since it is similar, but I am scared to switch again. Any experiences?

Hi, Metadate is the same med as Concerta, with a different release. The Metadate ER lasts 8 hours, versus 12 with Concerta. They BOTH contain Lactose. The amount however may differ.

Ugh, that stinks. Did you find something that says Metadate has lactose in it? I can't find anything. It also stinks that it is only an 8 hour drug. He has a very fast metabolism (he had intestinal surgery at 2 weeks old) so usually the time is cut down by about 1/4. Are there anymore 10-12 hour drugs out there?

I wonder about the Daytrana patch? Same medication in an obviously different form (maybe in a different form it doesn't have lactose?). A friend's son uses it and it gets him through the whole day.
