Hi, and welcome

Ritalin LA is a long acting for of Ritalin, it is a methylphenidate med, the same as Concerta, Ritalin, and Metadate. Watch for sleeplessness, and appetite decrease, these should pass in time, but sometimes are troublesome. Also

A child may HAVE ADHD, but it is not what they ARE. Never tell a child they ARE ADHD.

She said most of it, but one I'll emphasize--rebound: basically, when the meds start to wear off, the kid gets grouchy/angry/easily upset. My kid & others on this board, it doesn't last forever--it was about a month when we first went on meds & then about a week each time we changed dose levels until the last couple years of changes. It helped to "get" that this wasn't really under the child's control. I think he was 8 when I explained it to HIM what was going on--he looked pretty relieved, I think he didn't get why HE was so upset about something that really wouldn't usually upset him.

Start the meds, and feel free to come back with questions...98% of the stuff out there, there is someone here who is BTDT.

Good luck, hope the first med & dosage works!!!

Hope Ritalin proves to be a winner! Our son has taken that and other forms of Ritalin for several years now and has done great on them. No side effects, although they can happen.

Good luck!
