Okay need some advice. About 1 year ago my 8 yr old daughter was diagnosed with mild ADD. We had tried to assist with behavior modification through her phychologist but no medication. We have recently made a big move from California to Pennsylvannia. I think the stress of the move has really taken a toll on my daughter. I will be getting her into to see a phychiatrist soon, but in the meantime I want to have a headstart on researching medications. So I come here for some help, Can you advise what medications have worked for your children? What can I expect? I just want my daughter to relax and have fun.

Ritalin and Concerta have worked here. The Ritalin worked for several months, but then seemed to lose effectiveness (as sometimes happens with these meds). Finally, after about a year, we decided to try Concerta. I was eager to try it since the Ritalin was a 2 or 3 dose/day proposition and the Concerta is only taken once a day. Concerta is actually a kind of time-released Ritalin, and it seems to be working fine for us at this point. Not only have we seen a big difference in school work, but also in sports, and social skills. Good luck in your search.

My son is 11 and he has been on Aderall and has worked wonders for him. Has really helped him in school and his behavior. They just switched him to Aderall XR and I have noticed some changes in him. Being very mouthy about everything and saying no one likes him, etc. The doctor said that it is the same medicine but I wish i would have never switched. That is the only medicine that he has been on. Good Luck on chosing a medicine
