My dd started on focalin xr after being on ritalin la for 10 months. We decided to switch because ritalin la was not lasting all school day. SHe strated on 10 mg on focalin xr yesterday and was running around classroom singing ring around rosie. SHe told principal that her new focus medicine is not working. My dh told her that medicine was changed. I spoke to her dr and they obviously said give it

Hi, and welcome

I would give it a week, at least to see if she adjusts. Focalin is a bit different than Ritalin la, and it will take time for her to adjust. Maybe try giving it a bit later in the mornings, so it peaks a bit later?

I would however

What did the *teacher* say? Was it a one-off & the meds worked the rest of the day, or what?

Is the dose reasonable for what she was on with Ritalin LA?

It may not be the right dosage or form of Ritalin for him. Give it another couple days and then call the doctor's office if you're not seeing improvement. We've always known immediately -- day one -- when a longer-acting form of Ritalin was right for our son.

Sometimes it does take a few days for the body to adjust, that is why Dr's recommend waiting a week or so between dose changes.

They have increased her dose which seems to be helping althought she wont have school until next week to know for sure. She does seem calmer.
