My 6 yr old daughter is so incredibly hyperactive.
IVF#1: Sept09, Estrace/Gonal F/Ganrelix/Menopur, 8 eggs retrieved, 6 fertilized, 1 5d blast, frozen
Our son was incredibly hyperactive, too. I would get back in touch with the doctor to let him/her know what you're seeing. Sounds like the dosage isn't high enough or it just isn't the right medication for your daughter. When ADHD medications are working right, you'll see the hyperactive behavior like you've described go away. Our son was just like your daughter until we got the right medication and right dosage.
It could be any number of other things, including ADHD and a Comorbid. Does she see a Psych for meds? If not I would find one, ASAP. Did the Neurologist do any IQ testing?
My first thought was a med issue, because she has only taken 2, and probably not tried each dose of both. I would start there, and if no improvements, then seek a re-valuation, with a Neuropsychologist.
A child may HAVE ADHD, but it is not what they ARE. Never tell a child they ARE ADHD.
Did the focalin actually help at all in addition to the "emotional" part? ("emotional" can just be rebound, if it was always when the meds were wearing off).
If the metadate is truly doing *nothing*, then either it goes up or you switch medication types.
How sure are you on the diagnosis? Because 6...and those symptoms, that could be things other than ADHD.
The number one reason that medications don’t work for ADHD is-Because children don’t take them!
Doctors tend to think that children are taking their pills all the time. Parents think their children are taking their medicines about 90% of the time. Even in a very careful study where they measured the medicine in saliva, 25% of the kids didn’t take their medicines correctly. In fact, about 12% of the kids never took one dose, even though the parents thought they were taking it all along.
The number two reason that medications don’t work for ADHD is because the kid does NOT HAVE AD/HD. Many disorders such as being a Pediatric BiPolar, have symptoms similiar to AD/HD. Only your Psychiatrist can tell for sure.
A psychiatrist can diagnose both mental and physical disorders, can do counseling, and knows ALL the psychoactive drugs, as well as having the ability to prescribe them. One stop shopping.
If you are only seeing a pediatrician, or a ped and a psychOLOGIST, STOP.
HI, and welcome
She may need a meds adjustment, a raise in dose or a change in meds. I would raise the dose first since she is used to Metadate, and the side effects are alredy there..
