I posted here a couple of years ago after my son was diagnosed with ADHD. Keith is 8 now.

He's been taking Adderall XR 20 mg with a 15 mg Adderall booster at noon for a while but we weren't seeing great results from it anymore so the psych. recommended switching to Vyvanse. He started out on 30mg but no results except for irritability BEFORE he took it and AFTER it wore off. We upped it to 40 mg and his attention was better but still irritability before and after.

It’s gotten worse until the end of last week I sent him to his room b/c he got mouthy with me and he had a two hour tantrum. We had some of his adderall left so I’ve been giving him that since Saturday. The irritability is better but still not great. And noises have started bothering him. Like repetitive noises. His brother pounding a hammer, the sound of the ceiling fan running.

We’ve got an appointment tomorrow with the pysch but I wanted to post here and see if anyone had some experience of this sort or any advice.

Thanks!

Lori

Hi, and welcome back

It sounds like Vyvanse is not the med for him. It is very similar to Adderall, and maybe he jusr needed a dosgae change of the Adderall, instead of a different med?

I would keep him off both until the Psych visit, give him time to have a little med break, and then see what works.

A child may HAVE ADHD, but it is not what they ARE. Never tell a child they ARE ADHD.
