I am so confused as to how to help my 10 yo son. He is in 4th grade and was diagnosed with a learning disability, mild ADD, and Tourettes in 2nd grade. He has a processing disorder which slows him down quite a bit. Other than that, his grades have been okay. He has had a neuropsych eval 2 years ago and has been evaled by our children's hospital ADD clinic. They said he's borderline for meds, so we have chosen not to since he's also a type 1 diabetic, and the meds will increase the Tourettes tics. The meds will also make his sugars unstable (he's already brittle) and make him lose weight, which he really can't afford to do at this point as he only weighs 62 lbs.

I am so frustrated with our school system. He has an IEP which noone seems to follow. I email the teacher and get lip service... I am so ready to yank him from school and home-school him. He's already being bullied... long-story. I have an emergency IEP meeting set up this week to address these issues. Wish me luck.

Any advice from BTDT moms would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Beth

A child may HAVE ADHD, but it is not what they ARE. Never tell a child they ARE ADHD.
