I agree- my son (8 yrs old) has been homeschooled now since January. I've come to the realization that all day long at school is just TOO much for him. WAY overstimulated. He needs socialization in short bursts.
Right now he has church which is 2 hrs of sunday school classes, cub scouts one day a week for an hour, and a homeschool co-op for two hours once a week. He LOVES his scouts and co-op, (and church sometimes too haha). He literally counts down the days. Those 1-2 hr spurts are just perfect for him. Even before we started homeschooling, he didn't have as many problems at church as he did at school. He's still active and has all those inattentive type issues, but he doesn't have the meanness, bullying, or other social issues at church, scouts, or the homeschool co-op.
I really think that 7 hrs at school was just too much socialization for him. He needs it in spurts, where he can "recharge". When he gets tired, he gets cranky and mean. I see it all day long.

My son has ADHD and he is gifted. I just pulled him out of school last week. I am homeschooling until June and then he will be starting summer camp. He is 5 years old, and he is in pre-k because of his birthday. He will be starting ADHD medication tomorrow, so I will see if it helps. My son has a 157 iq but he is not focusing, so he cannot do the advanced work at school. I will try putting him in a charter school and see how it goes. If he is having problems, I will continue to homeschool him. I am a teacher, so I know what he needs.
