How about those first days of school?

Just wondering how the first few days of school are going?

For us, we started out DS on Concerta (18mg) before school let out last year. They were well aware of our DS's problems. We had a positive last couple of weeks of school last year, so they were already aware he was taking it then. We met the new teacher (2nd grade) and told her about the ADHD and Concerta and about our DS. She is a very experienced teacher and said how she has seen meds do some great things for kids and how she is willing to work with us and with our DS. We both just felt good about her and there are only 14 kids in the class (DS goes to a small Catholic school).

So far, so GREAT. Though, with ADHD we are always cautiously optimistic!

DS has been in school for a few days now (started last week) and he is doing just fine. We stopped going to family therapy for a while. We decided to go back and see the family therapist after the first report card for a check-in session.

Another mom and I are trying to start a small support group for parents of kids with ADHD, or learning disabilities. We'll see how that goes.

But, it sure feels good to have this smooth beginning...I am grateful for it.

Isn't it wonderful when things go great!

DS was on meds all last year, and we had a wonderful year, except for a period when we were changing meds. Even that wasn't too bad, as the teacher didn't consider it a big issue to work with me.

This year he has the same teacher he had for K (before meds). I loved her then, and I love her now. She is so low key. Not a screamer. But not a pushover. He seems to be doing fine. So I'm sharing your cautious optimism for another good year!

Catholic school here, too. He's got 27 in his class, but I'll take that any day to the 20 kids in a public school class around here.

My Son started Concerta Last year (1st grade) and he took really well to it. He was able to consentrate more and was able to handle himself better, the teacher was so nice about it! He is also going to be on it this year but were not sure weather we have to up the dose. he only take 18mg. The only problem with the meds is that it makes him not want to eat so i have to force him and it makes him not able to fall asleep till 12 or later. He is a very tall and skinny boy so it worries me about the not eating part. He starts school on the 26th so well see how everything goes.

Have a nice night

Glad to hear that you had a great 1st day of school. I hope that things continue to go well. It's always good when things go better than we thought they would.
