Hello Everyone,

I am a first time poster on this board but as the mom of a 12yr old with ADHD, have taken a lot of comfort reading through the posts of so many of you with similar circumstances.

Does your health plan website list any details on any of them? Can you find their websites to see what their specialties are? Have you asked your pediatrician for some referrals?

I would ask them what experience they have with diagnosing and treating children with ADHD. Also what types of treatment methods they like to use. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut feeling when you meet them. Good luck, it's hard choice to make.

If you know people who have used them, ask them their opinion (ask for an honest, off the record opinion.)

If you do anything that may be considered slightly different, ask their opinion about that. Ours nuero psychologist didn't "believe" in vision therapy and thus totally missed all the dyslexic symptoms in evaluation that my son had that we were going to do vision therapy for (for the lazy eye that was messing up his eyes tracking across the page.) We also home school, which our doctor was OK with, but I have heard other doctors really slam parents for choosing to home school. If you have something different in your life, you may want to ask up front if that will be an issue so that you are not getting blamed for choices that you made for the best of your family, especially if it is health or social related.

The questions you ask sound very good.
