I am new here, looking for some advice

Hello everyone, my name is Pam. I have an 8 year old little girl (I also have a 10 1/2 month old son). My daughter has always been hyper since I can remember. She has also been a huge extrovert. In the past year we have had some major issues. In May she started having panic attacks. We had thought it was in response to having choked a couple months before then but I'm not too sure about that. She hasn't had a panic attack since but has had moments when she was about to have one and we have calmed her down. This year she started 3rd grade and it has not been really good so far. According to the teacher she has trouble focusing, paying attention, getting along with others, misplaces assignments. Kaylie says she doesn't like her teacher because she is mean. She also has behavior issues such as interrupting conversations, talking too loud, not listening, trouble sleeping, eating issues, being bossy, etc. She has a huge imagination and gets really intense about things such as I want to be a star (and I want to be a star tomorrow not later), next day she wants to be a book author, next day an architect, it just keeps changing and she wants it now not later. She is intense when interacting with other children and I think they don't "get her". Her therapist has diagnosed her with generalized anxiety disorder but she also things she has OCD and ADD. Since anxiety symptoms can mimic ADD, they want to wait and see if the Zoloft they put her on 3 weeks ago will take care of all symptoms or not. So far it's not working, she doesn't seem any better to me. Here is an example of what I call poor social interaction on her part. She has been friends with this little girl this year that is in her class, all of a sudden she doesn't want to be friends with her and she told her "I don't want to be friends with you anymore, I don't want to hang out but we can still be friendly to each other". This little girl got her feelings hurt and others in the class are siding with her and think Kaylie is mean. She doesn't understand what iit is to be tactful and not come right out and say I don't want to be friends. Hopefully I am explaining this all correctly. MY husband is against ADD meds but I feel like she needs something. Does any of this sound familiar? Thanks for any insight

Hi Pam, I just joined this board myself a couple days ago and I was like your husband for a long time dead set against medications for my ADD-Inattentive son.

I agree with baykrismom that you should get a complete evaluations done, she is showing some of the typical characteristics of ADHD.
