Its been awhile since I have posted. My question is my DS(adhd,& sensory) is going into the fifth grade what kind of accommodations if any does your kids use in the classroom? I can't get him an IEP or 504 because his grades are good. Here the kids pretty much have to be failing before they get help:( But his teacher is willing to try anything to make this a better school year. Any suggestions?

Hi, welcome back!

He is eligible for an IEP under OHI( other Health Impaired), with an ADHD diagnosis.

DD has an IEP, and her accoms range from no homework without prior parent notification, to extended time on tests, and verbal testing in math, use of an FM device. Accomodations can be just about anything, within reason that helps your child learn

A child may HAVE ADHD, but it is not what they ARE. Never tell a child they ARE ADHD.

Hi, my son currently has an IEP but we are hoping he "tests" out in September and we switch to a 504 for the following accomadations:

Sit at the front of the classroom

Allow extra time for tests

Quiet place without distractions for tests

If he asks, be excused from the classroom to go to the bathroom outside of the classroom to pull himself together (this is so he does not get upset and cry in class which then leads to other kids teasing him)

Being allow to use a check-list for packing up homework and things he has to take home at the end of the day.

There are one or two more I can't think of off the top of my head but simple things that should not be a problem for the teacher/school to comply with.

My son is also entering the fifth grade in September.
