Im at my wits end

Im fed right up. I feel like Im going in circles and getting no where. I have a 7yr old DD. She's on Concerta (but the Gernic brand) 27mg I give her the pill before school and send her on her way. Saturday she missed it. She was with my parents and I didn't send one. I gave her one today and we went to a party this afternoon, She sat at the table and picked at her fingers and looked all zoned out. She just sat there. She has no interest in ANYTHING when she takes this pill. We've tried the lower dose as well & thinking of going back to it because I don't like the zombie that she's turns into. We've also tried Rittlan (sp?) it was horrible. I've tried other ones that she would get 3 a day and that was just a big mess. So one a day is great but that's the only thing that's great about this. She was put on this for concentration with school. She' never been "officially diagnosed"

One thing that I did

Generic drugs are NOT the same as brand name drugs.

Some variability can and does occur during manufacturing.

Ahh, I did not know that. Is it the approved generic that is still made by Concerta?

Thanks for letting me know :)

I was concerned by the medication she is taking because you are calling it generic Concerta. I did some research and there shouldn't be any generic versions until at the earliest May 2011 because of patents.
http://adhd.emedtv.com/concerta/generic-concerta.html.

Is she on methylphenidate, which is basically just Ritalin if I'm not mistaken? I guess I'm worried that the med she is on doesn't work the way that prescription Concerta does. I also urge you to seek out an official diagnosis. ADHD meds will not work correctly on a child who does not have it. Also, some of the behaviors you described could be attributed to other disorders like ODD (oppositional defiant disorder), and those can be greatly helped with behavior therapy.

Let us know how she does on the adjustment.

I would ask the Ped for a referral, and stop all meds until you have an evaluation done. It's just too risky if you don't know what you are medicating for.

hopefully the dosage adjustment will help. I've been warned its all trial and error. We've been on concerta 18mg since end of February. Still not 100% sure its the medication and dose for him but for the most part improvement in school, although teacher has mentioned there were a few days she thought he may have missed a dose

Thanks for your replys, I did call the ped today and told her how she was. She dropped the dose to 18mg. So we're going to give that a shot and see. She was put on it becuase she was not concentrating in class, talking out, yelling, disturbing other kids etc. @ home she wasnt listening to us, fighting iwth her sister etc. I would take all that over the zonked out kid. Anyhow I'll keep you all mosted and thanks for posting to me
