Hi, and welcome

It sounds like her meds are either not working any longer, or not agreeing with her. What dose is she on, and how long has she been taking it? She may need a change, or a highrer dose

Is she seeing a Pediatrician or a Psychiatrist? If it is a ped, get a Psych asap. They do much better with meds, and other issues in general.

Regarding not wanting your DD to take medication everyday; our doctor said to me when I did not want to medicate everyday "If you cannot get through an entire day , from wake up to bed without some kind of struggle, this is NOT normal and he's suffering too, he does not want to be punished, misbehave, get yelled at, be mean, and so on and so on, you are donig him no justice by not medicating him"

I thought about that statement for weeks as I observed my child every single day and hoped we could get through some days without something happening, eventually, I called the doctor and asked for a prescription because he was right, it's NOT fair to my DS to have a bad day everyday when I can prevent it.

I dont think that the meds are strong enought its the same dose as it was a year ago so now that shes bigger I think that she needs a higher dose. Im going to make an appt next week to go back and see the doc and get a stronger dose.

It is tough trying to manage the meds for a child with ADHD and hopefully with a dose adjustment or different medication she will do better. Please do not feel like you are "drugging" your daughter. She has a lack of certain chemicals in her brain and the medication is correcting this, just like a person who has diabetes takes medication to correct a lack of insulin in their body. It is no different and do not ever feel (or let anyone else tell you) it is wrong.

Best of luck ~ JoAnna

Thanks everyone, I made the appt today. I don't have to take her with me. The doctor can't see me till the 18th but better late then never. Thanks for all your comments

Wouldn't the Psychiatrist need to observe her and check her BP and general demeanor?

Sorry to hear your going through this but rest assured your not alone. I am having some of the same struggles with my 7 year old boy. He is such a sweet and loving child but most of the time he is totally out of control. There are times when I will have to walk out of a store or an appointment because he is acting up. I feel very defeated some days. I have chosen not to medicate my son for many reasons. I am finding that what works my with my son smd most children who have ADHD is rigid structure. He responds well to a very structured schedule. Although it hasn't solved all of our issues it has help some.
