Hi,
I have a 10 year old who was on Focalin until recently and then switched to Concerta so I am familiar with both medications. Does your son take the focalin before or after breakfast? I would suggest giving it after breakfast and trying to get a good hearty breakfast into him. One thing that we do to boost calories and nutrition is we use Carnation instead breakfast in his milk. Sometimes he makes a fruit smoothie and he adds a packet of vanilla carnation to that. You could also try a bedtime snack, after the meds have worn off. Hope this helps.

He takes it before breakfast because he generally doesn't have time to eat at home before catching the bus and will then grab breakfast at school.

Hi,and welcome!

have you tried adding calories to drinks, and other foods? We added Powdered milk to everything when my nephew was younger, and he finally gained a little weight.

A med break may be a good idea, he should return to normal eating habits, and gain a little weight.

My son HAD to be on pills everyday

Every pill that he was on worked - but Adderal killed his weight and I saw his shoulder blades and ribs showing

Depending on what time school started I would make a fattening breakfast (he never ate lunch) the minute he came down for it he would take his pills first and then devour everything - from pancakes, to waffles, bagel and creme cheese (nothing diet) nBy the time we got to school pills kicked in.

dinner time he wasn't that hungry - then I let him eat whenever he was hungry.

I'm glad he's back to a normal weight.
