la de da de da....just killing time while I listen to my DS toss and turn. This is our 1st day on Concerta 18mg after 6 months on Adderall xr 10mg....Behaviors where great today DH was loving his attitude, kind well mannered, no whinning or meltdowns at all, ate good (hungry actually!) helped his brother clean up lego's voluntarily!!! FAINT.... but we are not yet sleeping after being in bed for 2.5hrs....

well the adderall did this to him the first night too and I was unsure to give it to him the next day but did anyway...and that got better for 5 months anyway....

oh well the joys of the game I guess... maybe I won't be so infrequent anymore like I was for 5 months while the road was less bumpy...

Well goodnight, I hope

I'm not sure why this happens. What time do you give DS his meds? Can you give them a half hour earlier? What about a half hour later? Some doctors say you can possibly give another dose, however, I don't think that's necessarily what you need. It seems this is a temporary thing based on what you said about the other meds.

See how he is in the morning. Try adjusting the time you give the meds to him and see if that helps. If not maybe consulting your doctor about this might help. He/she might have some tips on what you can do to get him to sleep. Maybe Karate or some type of sport might help wear him out in the evenings. Just a thought.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I know the Concerta kept my son awake for most of the time we were on it. If we gave it to him at 7am, for example, we'd be lucky if he was asleep by ten. MOST nights. Actually it progressively was worse as the week wore on for us. Like he'd fall asleep by 9:30 or 9:45 on Monday but by Thursday he was up till 10:30. This happened consistently. The dr had us try a thousand things and we finally ditched that med altogether. Some people don't have that as a problematic side effect though. Definitely see how it is over the next couple weeks. I'd call the dr if it didn't improve. Maybe keep a journal of the times he falls asleep and the times you give the meds to show the dr. Good Luck!

Well, mine was still up at 12:30 and that was without meds and with 2 hours of swimming thrown in during the day.

I dread starting back on the Concerta. The first hurdle will be to wake him up early enough to give it to him (like around 7 or before). The Concerta did cause sleeplessness for us. I finally resorted to Melatonin. I picked up a bottle at WalMart. The first night I tried half a pill, but that left him a bit groggy the next day. So then I cut it down to 1/4 pill. That seems to have worked, and his ped gave it a thumbs up.

Hope things settle down for you!
