Hello all, I am here regarding my 10yo son. He was diagnosed with add 2 years ago, he has been on several different medications and now taking Adderall XR. He has lost 3 pounds in less than 4 months, and he was real thin to begin with. I am wondering if anyone has found a medication that doesn't affect the appetite so bad? Does the Stratera(sp?) lessen the appetite? Also at my request the school is finally going to test him for dyslexia, he is going into 5th grade and only reads at late 2nd grade level. Plus he has several others symptoms/problems. I did not find a board for dyslexia, if so can someone point me in the right direction. Does anyone else have experience dealing with add and dyslexia?

Thanks for any advice,

Hi Gina,

We don't have experience with Strattera but my son takes Metadate ER and has much less trouble with appetite. He had more problems on Concerta with not eating and sleeping. We like the Metadate ER alot.

I just wanted to share something my son has with you. It is called Central Auditory Processing Disorder. It is a lot like both dyxlexia and ADD. (Unfortunately my son also has ADD). You might want to do a search and see if anything comes up to give you red flags. CAPD is easy to test for, and it only takes about 45 min. I did it privately for my son, and it cost my $25 co-pay. Parent soup has a CAPD board. I'm only bringing it up because the most common misdiagnosis for CAPD are Add and dyxlexia. A lot of people refer to it as dyxlexia of the brain. BTW, only an audiologist can test for CAPD.
