My DD also has ADHD/innattentive type. It is very possible there is also a comorbid with your child, as it is pretty common for ADHD to go hand in hand with another disorder, and Anxiety is one of the more common issues. The fact that your husband has ADHD is also a factor, if he in fact does( alot of misdiagnosed kids/adults out there)

Hi Kristin, welcome to the board! My 13 you son is also ADHD inattentive, along with ODD and some anxiety issues. I totally understand not wanting to medicate your child, it was something my dh was against for a very long time. What finally changed his mind was watching our son just go downhill in 5th grade, they have a much harder time keeping up with the work as the school years get more difficult. His self esteem was horrible, and that started worrying us more than any side effects. It might take a few medications to find the one that works best for your son, but the goal is to find one that doesn't alter his personality. It will just give him the ability to be the best he can be without his ADHD holding him back. My son is currently on Vyvanse, and we haven't seen any side effects.

Keep in mind that these meds are short lasting, so if you aren't happy with what you are seeing they'll be out of his system by the end of the day. Concerta can have effects on appetite, but there are ways of dealing with it.

I'm glad that you were able to make them see that you will need their support. It's hard when you are the main parent dealing with all the problems, it's something my dh never really understood either. It was very easy for him to comment on behaviors or situations when he wasn't the one that had to talk to the teachers, counselers, doctors, etc.

You should see most of them while they are still in his system, but some could arise towards evening. Let us know how he does today.
