We have always stopped meds during the summer and have never used them on weekends, or holidays. If they aren't working, then stop them until you get an appt. She might surprise you

Thanks… I’ve actually been surprised…there have been some ups and downs but overall she is doing really well… I could do without the whining…but so far so good.

Melatonin is great, but check for artificial colors, especially in the Vit C. ALso, when people ask what is wrong, tell them " I didn't know it was your business", they usually stop asking after that

I hadn't thought about the colors... I'll have to take a look at that but they are pretty pale so I am doubting there is anything in there.

we take weekends off and will be taking the summer off. Some days are better then others but isn't that the case with any kid. For us summer means summer camp which means he is going from 8am to 4pm and nothing like school but I don't have enough to get me through this last month of school so I will get a refil in a few weeks and have some just in case.

But also if the meds aren't working then isn't that like being without anyway? I would explain that to your mom. I get the hesitation if she is the primary care giver but maybe a explanation that its not working might help.

Was she a huge behavior issue before? Is that behind her hesitation?

The ironic thing is my DH who was so opposed to meds is the one hesitant about taking the summer off, again he goes to camp all day long and camp never had an issue and they keep them going all day so I am not too concerned and I have a back up plan. We do use behavior modification too and a reward system too. He is a very picky eater so elimiation diets won't do for us since the goal of summer off is to combat weight loss on medication.

Yeah I was kind of thinking that with them not working its no worse to be off them.

I know I'm late for this discussion but wanted to give you OUR experience with ADHD meds:

My son (who is now 14) was on generic form of Ritilan since 1st grade.

Thank You...

My mom has fought it the entire time...claiming that in addition to being hyper she is whiney... she was whiney ON the meds.

I ended up keeping a journal (open word doc that I added to everytime I saw any behavior that caught my attention...positive and negative) for 25 days... it took up 12 pages.
