Please pray for us!

While I was in NY helping to settle my mother-in-law's estate, I repeatedly asked my husband if our son was taking his meds properly and he "thought" he was. Unfortunately my son lost the med sheet I gave him of what to take when and his father didn't know what he should take so while his dad was outside he took all his meds at once!! He got very high and they baker acted him to an emotional and behavioral unit of the hospital for three days! Needless to say I drove like a maniac the 1400 miles to get home and now they won't release him for at least another three days because they are giving him a med break and trying different meds to see if something else will help. They are now telling me that he has been misdiagnosed and they think he is bi-polar!!! They told me that if I wanted to get him out I would need a lawyer and they would take me to court. They only allowed me to see him for 5 minutes yesterday and if he gets out of control they sedate him!! I am enraged and completely beside myself. My husband thinks this is just "wonderful" and now maybe our son will get some good help. I just want him out of there and home with me!! This "incident" will not be helpful to my marriage either. My husband and I never did see things the same way about our son. He always just thought it was a behavioral issue and could never quite admit that there was something more wrong. I on the other hand have fought tooth and nail since his infancy to get him the proper help he needs. The nurses are horrible and all they do is strong arm him into behaving. If things don't calm down soon I will be on the same ward with him.

Please just think of us and pray for us.

Thanks so much,

Nancy (my son's name is Tony).

You need legal help. Go to BPkids.org (if you haven't been there yet). I know some of the parents there have been in the same situation. Someone may have some ideas for you. Have you talked to your sons doc???? Sometimes they can help, maybe get him into another hospital or something. This may be what your son needs, a med break, and closely monitored med change.

You can make it through this, take a deep breath. If your son is Bipolar, then he can be placed on the correct meds. Hang in there.

Lots and lots of huggs and prayers! You'll make it through this, but I would be sure to contact a lawyer just in case and your sons Ped.

Good luck and you will be in my prayers,

Shaun
