Hi I don't usually post on this board but I have a question for you if you don't mind. A friend has suggested I try FX3 or Effelex (a fish oil supplement) for my son who has some anxiety and emotional/behavioural problems. He hasn't been diagnosed with ADHD but I have seen this supplement advertised for ADHD, so I was wondering if any of you have tried it and had any success. I see that mostly your children are on medications but I am just hoping maybe someone has tried this. I've tried looking it up on the net but haven't had much success so far. Thanks for any help.

There is a cool search feature now on these boards, so if you type in "fish oil" it will give you links to a few posts where fish oil supplements might have been discussed. Good luck in your quest for answers.

Hi there,

Omega 3 fatty acids have sort of entered the main stream for emotional problems over the last few years. I have BP and I also have many BP friends some of which use this supplement.

However I would suggest if you are going to try it, get cold pressed flaxseed oil as it does not have the fish taste, which will "come back on you" for hours.

It is important that you get the cold pressed stuff as the others are poorer quality. Flaxseed oil must be kept in the refridgerator.

I do not know anything about dosages for children, and it's unlikely you will find it on the bottle so checking with a homeopathic specialist would be a good idea.

Just my .02

Thankyou for your reply. I actually checked at a chemist today and the one I am looking at is called Efalex. It is made for children with ADD/ADHD. It contains Tuna oil, evening primrose oil and another oil I can't quite remember. It is in tablet or liquid form with a lemon/lime flavour. The liquid is cheaper than the tablets which are quite expensive (but would be worth it if they worked well). I am thinking of trying the liquid as he would need to take 10ml morning and night (hoping the fish taste wouldn't come back tho like you said or he probably wouldn't keep taking it) I will have to think about this. The tablets were taking 4 morning and night (thinking that is too many for an 11 yo to handle.)

I haven't heard of the flaxseed oil but I will look at that too. Thankyou.

I did try these pills with my DD. The repeat of them was horrible and she would not take them anymore. Couldn't tell if they made a diff in her or not as we didn't take them very long.
