Hi everyone!
Nick has started playing baseball, and we are so thrilled he wants to play a team sport. This is his first year he *wanted* to play, and he is loving it. His anxiety is very low and there are 3 other boys from his 2nd grade on the team he knows. His practices are during the week at either 5 or 6:30 and last between and hour and hour and half. This is of course the time where his Concerta 36mg is wearing off and he is having a harder time concentrating. I'm waiting for a callback from his doc, but I wanted to get your feedback on whether you use a booster to help with sports (it would also help for homework after the earlier practices). What dose did you use, how long did it last, around what time did you give it? Did you have any issues with sleep? Nick does take clonidine around 8 pm now as is.

Alex takes Focalin 10MG XR for school, and we have a booster for after school activities - again, Focalin 5MG. He uses it for cubscouts, as well as other evening activities he has. It's got a very short life, though. Doctor said to give it to him as soon as he gets home, but if I do that, it wears off by 5 or 5:30. I usually wait until 4:30, if the activity runs 6-7. We had sleep issues initially, but don't anymore. Alex takes melatonin to help him sleep, and still needs that.
Alex is also planing on doing baseball this spring - I got to tell you I am nervous. Last time we tried tee-ball it was a nightmare (we didn't do baseball last year, but this year he wants to try again). I am just hoping the season goes okay for him.
Clonidine is great - it worked for us - but eventually it stops working - we got about 2-3yrs I think.

My ds played sports on teams thru 12. (he played Summer and Winter baseball)
We had the practice about the same time you have - and I would pop him a pill (5mg) just as we got there and he did fine
I needed those boosters cuz then we had homework after practice.

When DD does take a booster it is a tiny dose, 5 mgs of Regular Ritalin. We don't use it every day, but on game days and during TAKS when she has TONS of homework.
A child may HAVE ADHD, but it is not what they ARE. Never tell a child they ARE ADHD.
