HI, and welcome

What dose was he started at? The lowest dose is 10 mgs, and is a Square patch, not a rectangle. It sounds like his dose was started too high. All meds should be started at the lowest dose, and taken at the lowest effective dose.

My son is on this patch and I am very happy with it. We started out with 10 and it wasn't enough so we went to 20. I ended up having to wake up at 5:30am to put it on him in his sleep so that it kicks in in time for school. He is so much happier on this than on the Adderall. He is having carnation instant breakfast to make up for the lack of appetite (it comes back in time for dinner) and a small amount of Melatonin at bed time to help him fall asleep. Try not to beat yourself up about giving him the medication he needs. You wouldn't question giving your child heart medicine if he needed it? I hope it helps.=)

My son started at the lost dosage that you can get and it was still to much. And he was on it for about 2 months and the doctor thought it would be best with out and try something else and that other meds didn't do any good at all. So, his doctor and I agreed that we will no long put him on meds. The reason is because if they only have
ADHD all the meds that we tried would have worked and they didn't and we know that our son just didn't have ADHD he also has Autism, LD and more.

What dose was he started at? Sometimes the Patch is started too high. Even though it is methylphenidate, the delivery is different than a pill, and often a much lower dose is needed.

My son was on Daytrana and it was a nightmare. It work to well. He was in like a comatose(sp) and he last about 10 to 15lbs. He doesn't just have ADHD he also has ASD. He has been on different meds and all of them have not worked so he is not on meds at all. We are think on doing the GFCF Diet. I want to wish you good luck

HI, and welcome

I loved LOVED Daytrana, and we only stopped it at DD's request. She feared someone might see the patch during PE changing. DD participated in the med trials, and i was extrmely impressed with it.

It goes on the HIP, nowhere else, takes 2 ish hours to begin working, and will work for 12 hours, although you remove it after 8-9. You can remove it sooner, and it will continue to work for 3ish hours after removal. Redness is normal at the application site, and some benadryl spray works wonders. We used Flonase on the site, and it never got red again. Side effects are the same as Ritalin, or any other Mehtylphenidate med.
