My son has been taking Adderall for about eight months. It has been making him extreemely moody! His Dr. is switching him to a new medicine called Strattera (atomoxetine HCL). Has anybody heard about this med? I would like to get some REAL info and oppinions on it before I switch my child to something new.

I havent heard anything bad about Strattera. I

think most people like it because it is said to

be non habit forming. I think- not positive on

this- that the side effects are milder than alot

of the medicines also.

My Ds has been on Strattera for about 3 months now and the results have been great. I remember someone on here refering t thier ds as Atilla the Hun on a certian med, I thought that was so funny because that is exactly what my son acted like on Aderall. At first he was very tired and it upset his stomach in the first few weeks if he did not eat before he took it. So far it is working wonders. In fact since he has been on it I havent actually posted much here because I havent had many problems out of the ordinary, I am here reading all the time and putting in my 2cents when I can.

We didn't have any negative reaction or side effects to Strattera (which DS was on for 3-4 months) but it just didn't work for him. Even adding small doses of stimulants didn't seem to help. They increased the dose of Strattera from 18 to 24 to 40 to 60 mg, but we just didn't see any benefit from it. DH has ADD, without the hyperactivity, so I have to wonder if meds for ADHD have the same effect for someone like him. Concerta worked really well for a long time, however. Like I said, we didn't have any negative reactions, but just didn't see any benefit, and have weaned him off recently.
