Younger friends

My son is 9 1/2, he is going to fourth grade . He was diagnosed when he was 5 and he is medicated only when he goes to schol.He is immature for his age, he only plays with younger kids (between 6 and 8). He goes to YMCA after school, all his friends are younger. In our block , only one kid plays with him (he is 7). I also noticed, since he is older, he is bossy with them. I tried to explain to him , he has to follow sometimes what the other kids are playing. The few friends he makes , don't last very long. At our block, he has got rejection from his peers , so he has given up trying with them.

HI, and welcome

Kids with ADHD tend to be socially, and Psychologically younger than their peers. They also sometimes have trouble making friends, due to social issues. He is probably on the same level as the younger kids, or feels less threatened by them.

I have learned that as they get a bit older, the field levels out

A child may HAVE ADHD, but it is not what they ARE. Never tell a child they ARE ADHD.

Don't worry - it does get better as they get older - my ds was the exact same way.

Hi all;

Thanks for your posts!!,

I hope it gets better..with time. One more question, do you guys encourage friendships with kids with the same condition?. They have a lot of fun but it gets too crazy sometimes.
