This is a heartbreaking video from the Today Show, but as a parent of an ADHD child it also angers me because it's stories like these that create so much bad press about ADHD meds. A college student, without ever showing signs of ADHD or being properly diagnosed, started taking Adderall to do better in college so he could advance to medical school. From the interviews on the piece, it sounded like he misled his doctors and knew exactly what to say to get the prescriptions. His parents tried to intervene, but with the current privacy laws there was nothing they could do. He eventually committed suicide, here is link if you would like to watch the story: http://www.today.com/id/3041426/vp/50730110#50730110
I was glad that they stressed a few times that they are safe when taken correctly, but not many people pay attention to those details. I do hope that it's a wake up call to non-ADHD young adults who are thinking of abusing these meds in order to do better in school.
