1-2-3 Magic and other issues...

First of all, I'm wondering if anyone here has used 123 Magic with thr typical child or child on the spectrum and how has it worked? Their is a workshop coming up in town on it and I'm wondering if it would be helpful for me and bf. Austin is coming up on 4, completely verbal and barely on the spectrum. Matty almost 5, not verbal and I have no way of disciplining him whatsoever as I feel sometimes he doesn't understand completely. BF has two children, 5 and 7, who are a handful and since he helps me with my boys too, it could be nice if it's a useful approach.
Also, has anyone else's child ever gone through a foot banging stage? Matty, at 4am nonetheless, gets on his knees and bangs his feet on the ground very loudly. My neighbors are going to kill me soon! I have tried all sorts of other input--joint compressions, jumping, massage, deep pressure, nothing is helping. I think he is also getting a vibration from doing it too.
And one more thing...for those who are single moms or who have useless husbands--how do you do it? I utilize 4 hours of respite a week, my mom helps me for a few hours. Otherwise i feel like a prisoner in my house. I can't go anywhere with the kids without someone else because if Matty starts melting down, I have to give him undivided attention and can't be sure that Austin will behave and stay near. It's really wearing me down. Can't go to the park, the store, a walk--nothing because of safety issues. All i can do is take them for a car ride, which they like and hit a drive through on occasion.
Well, any input on any of the above would be appreciated. Thanks, Valerie

While I've never read 1,2,3 Magic (didn't even know it existed until I spent some time working in a bookstore 3+ years ago), we've been using the same basic technique for years...and it works incredibly well.
I finally got smart and taught my 6 year old's teacher and 1:1 how we use it, and they said the difference was incredible. Whenever they want Claire to do something, they simple say "1" and before they ever get to "2" she's already being compliant. I'd say it's definitely worth a shot.
I can't speak to the other part of your question. Sorry.
Amy
I believe that 123 magic was dsesigned for typical kids, and not ASD kids specifically. It just happens to work well with our kids.
We us a modified version of 123 magic with both kids.

I haven't read the other responses yet, but I'll give my 2 cents.
hey Valerie!
Well, I haven't read the book 1-2-3 Magic, but I was using its principles for a while.
We have used a modified version as well and over all I think it is a good approach.
I have found that with Mike the new system we are using is much better for him. I think in large part due to the visuals that are with it. If you simplified it for matt and had visuals to go with it perhaps that may help. It would be the same program as the other kids but modified in a way so he can understand more easily, kwim?
His teachers may be able to help you make some materials as they likely have all the good computer programs for that.

Val,
Forgot to mention.... On the foot banging thing:
If you think it is sensory seeking for vibration, do you have a massager or anything you could let him explore?
