Is 6 too young for summer day camp?

I am considering sending DS to a summer day camp in our area that specializes in kids with social difficulties like ADHD and Aspergers. It runs 6 weeks from 9:00 am til 2. I went to an open house and it sounds wonderful. Very positive. They focus on self esteem building and forging friendships. They teach sports at a non-competitive pace plus lots of arts, crafts, nature and stuff.
The ages are 5 through 17 and the counselor kid ratio is 1:3. Ok so now I worry if DS can do it? He is SOOO active, I fear he will be bored at home. Plus he's an only so no siblings to interact with. But he's still 6...is that too young? I imagine him changing out of a wet bathing suit, opening his own fruit cup...As you can probably tell, I'm a little too overprotective. DH thinks he needs this and it will help prepare him for first grade.
Anyone with experiences to share?
Thanks!

Well we didn't do it at 6 because there wasn't one available then. We did do an autism camp last year. First time ever and first ever camp for Mike. It was SOOOO worth it. He is going again this year.

Not last summer but the summer before I sent my youngest (6 at the time) to a summer day camp. I mainly did it because he flips out when schedules change and its almost unbearible. I thought well If I give him some place to go to everyday, it might not be such a bad transition between school and summer vacation.
Well it REALLY helped with that, and he had a ball!
I don't think 6 is too young for my child, but hon I don't know yours. I guess maybe you could try it for a few days and just see how it goes? See how he responds to it all?
