Okay, we got our orders and are moving back to Ft. Campbell, KY. We've been there before so it's not a big deal for me or DH but we are concerned with Vic. He's going from an elementary school that has the lowest rating in the district of one of the lower districts in one of the lower states to a Department of Defense school which are notortious for being a year ahead of district schools. On top of this, he's going from elementary school to middle school. I'm definately a bit worried for his stress levels. I'm going by EFMP today to get some help with the adjustments but anyone else got any ideas on stuff I can do to make this the LEAST stressful as possible?
On the plus side, Victor's one and only friend is at Ft. Campbell and I'm sure the two of them will be glad to see each other again. Of course Victor's friend's mom and I are best friends also so that helps too.

Make sure your IEP is well put together and send all of that info before you even start there. And immediately set up for a new IEP meeting to get everyone on the same page. Also is it possible for you to well hold off till the end of the school year? I don't know when the offical end of school there for you would be. May or June? Think about all of the changes Vic has been through this past school year esp with the teacher switch mid year.
If your DH can at least go ahead and then you and Vic can finish out the school year. Even discuss with the teacher about a "graduation" type ceremony for Vic so he can feel comfortable with moving up to Middle school. But then you can give him a couple of months in between then to acclimate to the new house and enviorment. Then you could possible get a tour of the new school and even an orientation. And then he will be the new kid with the rest of the crew.
Another suggestion. Depending on the birthday cut off, will it effect what grade Vic will go into? Would holding him back be better for him? And use the birthday cut off as an excuse to allow hm to catch up?
Good luck.

Stay away from the Glenellen school district. They were no help what so ever. But since Vic is going into middle school, Kenwood is really over crowded.
We were at Campbell until 3 years ago. I was happy with Clarksville (we lived in town) and the post wasn't terrible, as you know.
I envy you a bit. I miss my hair stylist that is still there. She is AWESOME.
We are headed to Schofield this summer, when DH gets back from Iraq.
I wish I knew how good Campbell is with Autism, but we didn't have a diagnosis while we were there, no one would listen to me. I will say, I've heard good things about the Developmental Ped, her name is Dr. Fisher, I believe.
Good luck on your move. Yes, I did enjoy Campbell.

That will be really nice to be near your friends again. Sometimes that makes all the difference in the world.
I have no input what so ever for you. All I know about on base schools is from doing OT at a couple here in Cali. I am there briefly 1 time a week and mostly in SDC classes so I have no idea how their services are.
Hope it all goes well.
