Nick rode the bus for the first time this year too and it was actually harder for him when I was there. I think he put on a bit of a show for me, he was extra clingy. He goes to the before/after school care at the Y and in the morning I drop him off, they take him to school, only about 8 blocks, the first day he was all seized up, made me wait until they got on the bus, clung to my legs, etc. The 2nd day (today), I said my goodbye while he was still inside and left for work (they are all familiar with him) and he did very good with the bus. The driver is wonderful with him, very kind and gentle. It isnt easy leaving him, but if you linger, it might be harder. I dont know if that will work for Adam, but it did for Nick. I guess it may be trial and error. Nicks big thing is his anxiety so having him face things head on sometimes is what he needs to show him he can get through it. Then he sees it isnt so bad, kwim?
Good luck and I will be thinking of you guys!

Dear Nora,
My 3 year old has been riding the bus since October. I'm freaking a little bit because today was the first day to a new school and a new bus company, and I did not follow the bus and stake out the school like I wanted to. :( My little guy's new school is in the opposite direction of my work, and I had a morning meeting. But I have heard his day has gone fine so far.
My son loves the bus. He's fine. It is actually a fantastic transistion from home to school. At least on the way to his Early Intervention school, it was a calming ride for him, and by the time he got to school, he was "over" whatever set him off at home in the morning. (Not being allowed to throw oatmeal in the guinea pigs' cage? Having to wash hands after going to the bathroom? Being stopped from putting the ball-pit balls into the toilet? You can see that my three year olds mornings are packed with dissapointments.)
I look forward to hearing how it went for Adam! I'll be reading, even if I don't post.
