Hi, I'm wondering if anyone else out there has a child with the same issues I am dealing with. I feel like the root issues of the problems and challenges we deal with are hyperactivity, and the inability to stop obsessing about things/inflexibility. I keep trying to find ways to address these issues.
We have tried different several ADHD meds in the lat two years since dx, currently on Vyvanse which seems to be doing pretty well for daytime. However, we stopped the Seroquel at night (for hyperactivity, helping to sleep) after finding out how strong/addictive it is for a lot of people, and that it is not recommended for kids. After withdrawals (website lists 85 symptoms!) we are glad to have him off it, but now dealing with the hyperactivity. If he takes another med at night, then we have a huge problem with eating enough. He's very picky--can't add protein powder, etc. and we are trying the gfcf diet (anyone else try this?) which is also challenging.
Does anyone else have suggestions for nighttime hyperactivity?
What about the inflexibility/obsessing? Our son never wants to part with a single toy/school paper/book, anything he has ever owned! I have been periodically picking through when he's not here, weeding out the junk and things that are not particularly special to him, but I keep failing at trying to get him to see or be willing to sort things out and give things up himself. He loves legos, and is constantly begging for me to buy him new toys and legos. I have tried the swapping-out with garage bins, but he HAS to have everything, and have it where he wants it or he melts down. I have worked with him on earning money to buy toys if it is not a birthday or holiday, and have stuck with this, but he is still constantly begging--as if it is a life-or-death issue.
Anyone else have any suggestions or successes in this area?
