Greetings,

My son is in the evaluation process for possible Asperger's syndrome.

My kids were evaluataed by a "team" at Children's Hospital. We just got the first written report (from the speech/language team member) in the mail today, and it mentioned the ADOS test. I can't go get it right now to see what it says, but I remember thinking "I've heard that acronymn before, and oh, this is what it is." Both kids were dx Aspergers, so I guess it is utilized by at least some professionals.

You mentioned all the forms you filled out. I bet I filled out some of those, but it never occured to me that they had a name. Now I'm curious about what I filled out. I initially just assumed they were standard intake forms like you fill out any time you go to a new doctor's office. I probably should have known better. Duh!

Again, yes. With both my kids.

ADOS is helpful with autism spectrum kids. There is really a very fine line between autism and aspergers. In fact some studies recently have found that those with AS nearly always fit criteria for autism as well. So it stands to reason that many autism scales could be used with people with AS.

It was really interesting how a psychologist used it for Cait last year. She didn't use it diagnostically. Rather she used it to specifically point out where Cait's communication skills were breaking down and her autism was getting in the way of some skills. Pretty cool.

But yes, my very Aspie girl had it at 12 1/2 years old.
