Of all the dx that your loved one has been given - which one was the hardest for you to accept? Which one had the most impact on your daily life?
After 7 mos I was almost accepting the asperger dx. In the background other dxs were making noise. But I felt comfortable and accepted at this message board and thought life will be hard but it will be okay. Then the background noises got louder and bp was recognized. I find bp harder to accept. For me it seems scarier.I'm not sure if it is because bp is new or because I had finally was at peace and working on what son needed as an aspie.ADHD also made an appearance. I am not convinced that ADHD is a separate issue from the ASD. Just some thoughts..

Hmmm.. some thoughts. Looking through the posts of this board, I believe this may be the only place some people feel free to express their fears, broken dreams, frustrations and guarded hopes for their children. I've gained much in positive feedback and support from you all. I thank you all. And you should all be proud of how much you do for your children. And should be thrilled that although we would not wish the diagniosis on anyone, this is a special group of parents who do the best that can be done for their children.

Recently I've lurked at other sites. Some such as the bipolar and 504, spec ed sites are fantastic sources of info. Another site (Nothing to do with special children) the posters were mean to each other, degrading and mocking.Nothing supportive could come out of their conversations.

I guess we have enough problems, without being mean to the few people who can understand our special problems.

Yes, I totally agree with you, and this is why I keep coming back here.

Yup Yup, I agree. We a pretty neat bunch of gals.

Ok, gotta read that book, "more than a mom". Also talks about how we as moms of special needs kids are more fullfilled in life because of what we have learned as special needs moms. Ya know, I think we have learned what really the important stuff in life is and just don't feel the need or desire to bicker over meaningless things. It doesn't help anyone to be mean to each other or petty. I like it here too.

However, if someone ever attacks our babies. Watch out. There be heck to pay!!!!!

Chiming in to agree about how great this board is.

One time, I did a search to get some info about auditory hypersensitivity in children, because I was concerned by the way my NT son would put his hands over his ears in a crowded enviroment. I ended up at some online magazine message board. Someone was concerned about how her eight month old baby seemed so unhappy during church services. The first five or so responses were basically that she's young, and she'll get used to it. Then somebody tactfully suggested that perhaps the mother might want to wait until the child was a bit older before taking her to church services. After that, there were over a hundred posts, and as far as I could tell, it was mostly bickering and hurling abuse. Some of the people were offended by the "don't go to church" suggestion, and others thought it was terrible to expect a baby to sit through a church service. I found one response by an OT, who suggested auditory hypersensitivity, but nobody responded to her. Nobody cared about the original poster's problem; they just wanted a fight. I could actually feel my brain cells dying off as I searched for something useful in there.

Yep. I like it here.

I have since been to the reflux, playgroups, expecting for ds#2, SID and spirited kids board.
