All's well, off to TX

Well, Malcolm is out of Day Camp now and he took it very well. I told him I thought Camp was at long last getting too much for him and not so much fun anymore and it was time for a nice long break and some fun vacations, such as visiting his almost 9-yr-old girlfriend in TX for 5 days and then his cousins in MN for week of lake and State Fair, etc. He seems agreed and even a little relieved.

When I asked if he wanted to go back for last few days of camp after TX trip, he said "Not really. Camp was getting boring anyways!" And he and girlfriend are over the moon with excitement of seeing each other, as it has been about a year since she moved away and they have missed each other.

He's still a little overanxious in his body, but slowly getting better. And just this weekend, we found the most wonderful Western-style horseriding teacher in the Bronx, older guy, ex-rodeo rider, who had Malcolm up on a HUGE horse (my 8 year old is taller than most 11 year olds...) cantering and turning and commanding and riding across highways and up and down steep trails in one lesson, looking like a natural who had ridden for years. They all hit it off on sight (horse, too) and chatted about books and authors and rodeos while they rode. I got to accompany on another horse, a real pleasure for me so I could relax about how he would do, next time I won't go along. So this is definitely an activity we will pursue more in the Fall. Malcolm's TX girlfriend is an avid horserider, so now he's interested, too. But he seemed to really like riding for himself, once he tried it.

So, all's well that ends brilliantly. Thanks again for all the super support, I esp. enjoyed Evelyn's "Mean people suck" quote and Cathy's offer to come knock heads, made me snort. I'm hardly impartial but I agree with everyone that Malcolm is an kinda amazing kid!!! Amazes me constantly, really.

I'll post more after TX, woo hoo.
