My little guy will be 4 next week---diagnosed with ASD at age 2, now PDD-NOS. He is really a sweet little boy, very intelligent bright and happy. I really have less trouble managing him than my "typical" 22 month old. He is doing very nicely in preschool---playskills are starting to emerge this year. However, one thing that continues to drive me insame is his letter obsession. Given a choice he will choose to play with his letters rather than anything else hands down, and he would play with them all day if I let him (which I don't, LOL!) I would love to just toss them out, but he would be devistated, and besides you really can't escape letters KWIM? We writes them he is always reading every word he sees. On the "plus" side, he has been able to read since right after his 3rd birthday, and actually reads and writes quite well now. But when is this going to end? He is also very interested in numbers and the calendar and dates. His teacher is able to redirect him pretty easily and so am I, as long as I am playing with him---which I really can't do all the time!
