Hi ladies,

I work with a lady who is in the process of getting her son eval. and she is looking at alternative treatments.

One in particular is gylconutrients.

I didn't see anything positive or negative (other than cost) from them so we stopped using them. I haven't heard too many good reports from others who have tried them either. But every now and then someone swears by them. Like everything else it works for some and not others.

Our son's nutritionist recommended we try Ambrotose, which is a glyconutrient made by Mannatech. His gastroenterologist also suggested we use them. Eric has been taking them for about a year and frankly, we have not seen them make much difference one way or the other. We give him the "mannabears" which are essentially dehydrated fruits and veggies. He likes them I use them kind like a treat--instead of a gummy bear. I don't think they do any harm, but I don't think they have made much difference. I will probably phase them out soon, when the bottle runs out.

On the other hand, I have a couple of friends with children on the spectrum for whom these have made a big difference. The kind of, "wow,is this the same kid" sort of feeling, according to the parents. More energy, better speech, more focus. I think Little Roses here has had some success with this too. Maybe she will post.

So like anything, what works for one may or may not work for another. It's just trial and error.

For us, the alternative treatments that have made the most difference, in order of importance for Eric, are: dietary changes, digestive enzymes, these really had the biggest effect.

Next would be: omegas (both supplements and food), probiotics, and heavy duty multi vitamins.

Sorry to write a book. HTH!

I have a friend who has been associated with Mannatech for a long time and *swears* by their products for a long list of problems. She is convinced that they have more or less saved her daughter's (who has serious problems with a lot of 'modern' foods) life. So much so that she now works for them and does everything she can to 'spread the word'. :) She's made me think twice about a lot of our food choices, but we just can't afford to consider the Mannatech products themselves. If we could I'd probably use them to a degree though... after all we've learned from her.
