Am I making too big a deal of these?

Cait's state test scores just came in today. She dropped in both language Arts and Math. Out of a possible 600 points in each area, she dropped 61pts in language arts (415 to 354) and 11 points in math (370 to 359). Math isn't that big of a deal really. But the Language arts is I think.
The scores are divided up into 5 levels. Advanced, proficient, basic, below basic and far below basic. The goal is for all students to be proficient or above (based on NCLB). Cait has always done well on the tests and currently in both areas she is barely squeaking by at the proficient range (cut off is 350 and she has 354 and 359). And last year her languge arts score was pretty strongly in the advanced range.
Her achievement scores at her triennial also dropped this past year which I have posted about separately. Her broad reading when from in the 120's in 1st and 4th grades to 92 which is basically the 98%ile to the 25%ile. It is still in the average but barely.
Her teacher tells me this happens to all middle schoolers with AS. They are teh gifted ones in grade school but then drop pretty significantly in middle school. But Cait is stil in the average range so I shouldn't worry.
So she scores currently "proficient" and "average" but they are incredibly lower than just a year or 2 ago. Do I let it slide and just figure this is part of growing up and autism or do I make a stink?

Make a stink.
If she is failing in middle school, but excelled in grade school, then I would blame the thing that changed: The school.

Dear Renee,
Yes. What the grumpy Irish lady said.
That is the biggest pile of stink-making lame-o excuses ever.
Go for the big ole P-U!!!

I think going from 98% to 25% is a big deal! Go get em, Renee and make it stinky! ( I have that black eyed peas song, "Smells Like Funk", running through my head ever since reading this post. ....We keep it stinky, we keep it stinky, lol.

Thanks for this question, I was going to go to the IEP board to ask something similar. DS #1, dx add-nos (tho i still think AS) dropped in his test scores from advanced to barely proficent in LA and from proficent to basic in math. Last year was a waste for him! now he's moved on to highschool (and is retaking the same math class he had last year) so I don't know what to do. We have him in a new program that "should" make a difference, much more correspondence w/ home and much more hands on learning w/ a study skills class added in-- where the teachers actually work together and communicate!
I do think you should really make a stink-- maybe it'll help-- and since she's in the same program they really should do something about it!
