Every single year the kids get a variation on this assignment.

Paula,

You know, I never thought of that, but it's a good idea.

I love the monopoly idea. That might work to sneak in some social and daily living skills with an updated one...hmmmmm

As for the heritage thing, there are certain projects my kids take home that ALWAYS make me cring because helping them understand it or even getting through it without meltdowns is nearly impossible. This would be one such assignment.

My kids are Heinz 57. We are all american. I don't think we could fit another heritage in there. They ask me "Mom are we...." I am sure we are somewhere kid. Even American Indian...but how much? Like 1/100. My grandmothers ancesters came over around the time of the mayflower so there was lots of time to get it on with lots of folks. LOL! And what I didn't have in me, DH covered with his family and they are like 2nd or 3rd generation.

Do we wear green on St. Patty's day? You bet! After all my kids are AS and they KNOW they will get pinched or some other terrible tradition if they don't! LOL.

I know we have Irish in us. We like guiness to much not too!

So at anyrate, for a quilt like that I can see my kids trying to figure out each and every possible nationality and fitting it in one little square. I so like the idea of we are american! but not sure that would fly with the kids depending on the directions they were given.

I think the thing that is getting to me is the fact that they are calling it a "heritage quilt."
