Another update on Christopher

Well I just got off the phone with the doctor. He is about ready to fax me his report on Chris's test results. He is doing this before we sit down and talk about the results scores, because the school is absolutely breathing down my neck for something in paper.

Now this is the doc that thinks Chris is bi-polar (I don't see that) and says he has Strong Traits of Aspergers, but doesn't have a Dx of As.

His emotional testing showed he is emotionally delayed, and he said all sorts of other things but I can't remember now...

He is recommending him for Special Education. I'm pretty shocked about that, as I thought he could stay in main stream like he always has been. But then again, my gut says that maybe this is the right choice for Chris, as he has the sensory issues and it keeps him from being able to do any work, amoung the other things like the Dysgraphia and his thought disorder.

Boy maybe I should do a re-wind on my life and go back to last summer where everything seemed to be just fine........

Lainie,

It sounds like you might be under the same misconception about special education that I was when we started all this.

{{{Evelyn}}} Yes it makes sense. I was freaking out because I do think maybe our communication was off between the doc and myself on the phone.

I talked to renee and she said the same thing. I'm just so new to all of this stuff.

And as I speak I'm taking turns with Tony, while my son has an absolute violent fit in his room, because I didn't make him fresh waffles at 10 oclock at night....

He has things with eating and food, but I know you will understand :)

Lainie,

Have you read "The Exposive Child" by Ross Green, MD?

Lainie,

Just because one doctor is diagnosing something doesn't make it so. Trust your instincts. You can always seek out a second opinion. And if there is anything in the report you don't want the school to see white out that part. When Kyle was dx there was personal info about our family history in the report I didn't want the school to see so I just didn't copy that section to give to them. Also Kyle was given a dyslexia dx. I never believed he had dyslexia even though at the time he was behind in reading. Two years later he was 3 yrs ahead in reading. Doctors make mistakes.

I know this has been a really hard frustrating rode for you guys. I'm praying it all works out for you. Christopher should qualify for an IEP under the specific learning disability category for the dysgraphia. Once he's qualified the IEP has to address ALL of his issues even if those issues didn't qualifiy him for the IEP.

Hang in there,
Samantha

I'll check that one out. You know I have noticed Christopher has had a major Carbohydrate craving for like a month you know? Total bread products, and its been hard getting him to eat any kid of fruit or protein. But at least the waffles had some eggs in it.. Protein you know?

I was reading somewhere to where their mal-nurished, they will crave carbs... so I RAN to the store to get some vitamens. Usually I can get him to eat some fruit, some protein, and at least raw carrots for veggies, but lately its been hard.

I'm hoping the vitamens will help....

{{{Samantha}}} I plan to get a second opinion, as this doc just didn't seem right with his knowlege on the aspergers thing you know? He tried to tell me AS kids don't have meltdowns, and I know you know they do lol. {{{Kyle}}}

I think I might take both my boys up to Stanford, as they have a Autism research dept, and with there second opinion I would feel like hey, its Stanford, they know this stuff you know?

Plus they can get them in within a month and they take my insurance. Whooohooo a good thing as I had to pay the last doc 3000 dollars out of my own pocket to find the Dysgraphia (a good thing) and the Aspergers.....

Lainie,

I have a waffle recipie that I feed the kids a lot without any reservations. They are high protien, low carb, have veggies in them, & taste awesome! Its a specific carbohydrate diet recipe. We aren't doing the SCD diet anymore but liked these waffles so much we won't go back to regular. The original recipe is:

1 Cup almond flour
4 eggs
2 Tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda

Beat eggs in mixing bowl. Add honey & vanilla & beat untill smooth. Add almond flour, salt, & baking soda & mix well. Pour inhot waffle iron or cook like pancakes.

I changed the recipe a little. I do it all in the food processor. I start by pureeing 8-10 baby carrots, then add the eggs, honey, vanilla, & salt. I increased the baking soda to 1/2 tsp, & add the almond flour last. We use 100% pure maple syrup on them so we avoid the processed sugar & corn syrup. Also 100% pure maple syrup has glycosugars.

Thanks Samantha, I'll try it. Chris is really really rigid with what he eats, so if this will look the same as any other waffle, then it will be okay. I don't know tho if he see's any color in there wether he will eat them tho (like the carrots).

And even if they taste slightly different than what he's used to, the syrup might just mask it over. I will give it a try :).

The batter looks orange but if you get the carrot pureed really fine you can't see it when its cooked. They look like regular waffles to me. Don't let him see you make them though.

LOL Boy your right on that one. There's no way I could let him see me cook them. I have to hide making his burger if it breaks apart while cooking, and then hope he doesn't inspect it before he eats it. If its broken at all, then there's no way he will eat it.

Thanks hon :)
