It is a very good possibility that I may be moving my family to the Richmond VA area and was wondering if anyone knows any good schools that really take care of Autistic children? As many know my story, My DS Adam is 9 and very high functioning Asperger's and is going into a normal 4th grade. Will not need an aide this coming Fall or OT -- needs extreme assistance in social cues.
Anyway, wondering if anyone can give me a general idea on a good school that might be geared to my sons needs. I do have another son going into 3rd grade that is on the normal spectrum. So, the goal is to keep them in the same school.
Any help would be great. The schools are a HUGE portion on our decision (of course the cost of living has a lot to do with it to -- much higher than upstate NY).
Thanks in advance!
Amy

Hi Amy! We are about 45 mins north of Richmond. I'm not sure about the schools in Richmond itself, but Richmond is where most of the medical specialists are. If no one else has immediate input for you I most certainly can check around with friends and family (my brother-in-law and his family live on the outskirts of Richmond). So far we have had a wonderful experience with our school system, but 2005-2006 was our Kindergarten year, and we don't have a dx yet, so we'll see how it goes after we get a diagnosis. ;)
As far as cost of living, yes it just keeps going higher and higher. We built our house five years ago, and as of when the market started evening out about a year ago, the value had increased by about 120%. Absolutely CRAZY! If you need any info as to good areas with a decent cost of living in the Richmond area I can certainly help out there too. Just post a message as to the specific info you are seeking and I'll get as much as I can.
Take care and good luck with your decision!
