OK I was nice this time: I didnt; post an OMG thread or try to fool you (and given the date, you have to admire me for that!).

I was open and upfront.

So please post a little about yourself and the kid or kids who bring you here. Also answer this bonusn question:

What is your Autie/Aspie's current obsession(s)?

I'm 39 with un-dx AS 44yo dh (during kids' recent diagnostic testing, the docs kept saying, ya know, dh might be AS, too...! ya think?!). We're in Maryland.

I have 12yo dd & 8yo ds, both recently officially dx as AS. Both are mild AS, but I see 8yo ds problems growing and becoming more stereotypical than dd issues.

I also have 10yo ds & 3yo dd who are both NT, tho' maybe ADHD for both. They both also have slight allergies and are outgrowing some sensory stuff.

Recently dd learned that a friend was earning money by participating in some health studies at NIH. Dd wanted to participate, too, but she's been pretty bummed to discover she's excluded from most studies because of the AS &/or her related bowel troubles. We might have found an AS related study that she can participate in, but she's pretty bummed about not getting to do the other ones and keeps pushing for a "good" answer on why AS should exclude her from doing the other studies.

As far as obsessions go, can reading count? My dd reads EVERYTHING. If she could do nothing but read, she'd read several thousand pages a day. Since she has school and other activities, she "only" reads several hundred to a couple of thousand pages a day, and she retains almost everything she reads. I'm not sure whether it's a true obsession or just something she enjoys doing to keep from being bored.

Ds doesn't have a lot of major obsessions, either, but he's currently thoroughly enjoying Pokemon and shares many details with me that I DO NOT understand!

Hi. I just joined today after learning about this board on another board I belong to for stepfamilies. I am the stepmother of a son, 17, who recently was diagnosed with a mild form of AS. He has all the classic symptoms. His father and I have him and his younger brother every weekend (Friday-Sunday). Our biggest issue with him is school attendance. He missed so much school last year that he was considered a dropout. This year, his attendance has been a little better but he's still missed a lot. He goes to a mainstream high school, which has made many accommodations for him after his therapist wrote a letter to the school and told them SS has AS, which is considered a disability. He sees a therapist about every week, when he's willing to go, which is often. The therapist thinks SS is depressed and has talked to SS about this, but SS refuses to take any medication. Anyway, that's me.

Hi. I'm Samantha. My son Kyle brings me here. He is 12 yrs old and in 6th grade. He started a self contained classroom today for 2 hours. He is homeschooled the rest of the day due to not being able to handle the school setting. He had a great first day in his new class, btw.

His latest obsession is Wii. He got one for his birthday.
