Hi Karyn
I have a 3 yr son who has PDD and has issues with sleep. He goes willingly to bed but keeping him asleep ALL nite is our challenge.
I would like to ask "why?" wait to get your son eval'd?
It would do your family a GREAT service if he is dx'd.
At that point, you could have an IEP for him at school protecting his rights in the school system. It would also help with getting any type of therepy if he needed any.
But to answer your question, yes sleep issues are common with ASD kiddies.
Hope this helps

Nora,
Thanks for your response.
Hi, Welcome to the board! I have a ds that will be 14 in June. He was dx'ed at the age of 10 with Aspergers. He has never -ever to this day slept through the night. NEVER! I will wake up at 3 am and he will have turned all the light on in the house-the TV and had a snack in the kitchen and gone back to bed-with his lights on! When he was younger I woul dbe up from 2am to 4am playing with a toddler. I was so very thankful when my dd slept throught the night when she was 3 wks old. I don't think I could have taken another non sleeper.

I just wanted to belatedly welcome you to the board.
I think your question was answered. Many of our kids have sleep issues. These can be for numerous reasons. Melatonin has been a lifesaver for many of us.

Oh, now I understand.
That wasn't posted in your first post.
As for others butting in, well that will always happen.
You as the parent have to make the end choice for the benefit of the child.
I hope all goes good for you and your family.
Sending possitive thoughts.........

That's GREAT!!!
When you have someone who's in your "shoes" especially when it's someone you know, it really helps.
Ironically today a mom in my son's group play therepy has a son my son's age and has PDD. She HAD NO IDEA of all the services she's entitled too!!
Well me and another mom (our kids goto the same special ed preschool) gave her all the phone # she needs to get started.........
Glad to hear you have things going in a better direction....
