That seems a bit iffy and creepy to me too. I mean, maybe they have good motives to raise awareness, but a credit card seems an odd way to go about that. Just my two cents.
ROFL I love those letters, Paula! I especially loved how you handled the person asking for donations in the supermarket. A while back Toys R Us had some kind of thing going for Autism Speaks where their employees were asking for donations for the group. An employee asked my dh if he wanted to donate and he said something about how we "donate" everyday since our youngest has a form of autism. The guy looked kinda shocked like he wasn't expecting that. He probably didn't even know what autism was anyway...
I do a similar thing at PetSmart. I adopted a cat, so every time it asks if I want to donate I dollar, I tell them, I donated 80, when I got Spot.
The card seems creepy in a way, but I have to say, if I can raise awarness, I'll try any way posible. Maybe that's because I'm new to all of this, maybe it's just who I am. I may have this feeling today, because of DD's preschool teacher's reaction when I told her about the dr appt yesterday. Total blank stare and a "What's that?"
LOL, I will have to remember that the next time I'm at the grocery store getting harassed by the checker to buy a Children's paper balloon! We've had lots of problems with them... the checkers, not the balloons. And that goes for the way they handle getting people to buy pink ribbons for breast cancer too. I guess I get so upset because I already donate to these two charities (in ways other people would never even think too) and even when the checker knows this they still pour on the guilt to donate by buying a paper balloon or ribbon. Next time I might offer to trade them one of their balloons or ribbons for one of my T-shirts from the same charity. DH says they have 'seasons' and he tries to make sure to wear the appropriate T-shirt during each season. He still gets harassed. It's amazing.
On a more serious note though... For those of us who are heavily involved in charity work for specific causes there seems to be this burr that settles under our saddles about how a lot of agencies go about garnering donations for their generalized funds. Even in the areas we choose to support we find we have to be wary of how and where our time and money is donated. These
