I was going to post a similar situation about my son that came up. I will likely post it separately.
However, the point I wanted to share with you is this. The incident a few days ago lasted a little bit, BUT he was able to turn it around and finish out his day well. A year ago once an incident like this started he would spiral for the rest of the day, sometimes to the point of restraint for dangerous behavior. I would have to pick him up anywhere from 1 to 4 days a week.
The other point I was going to make was that he doesn't need an IEP for a positive behavior support plan. Any kid can have one of those written to help them. Also, while you wait for an IEP, see about having a 504 implemented just for modifications and what not. If he has a diagnosis of even ADHD (even though not correct) he can qualify for a 504 until all the IEP stuff is done and in place.
