Hi there, I'm a lurker from over on the sensory integration board. I posted this there too. My ds has hypotonia and sensory integration dysfunction (so far).
Our 3 part assessment to rule out an Autism Spectrum Disorder begins today. The clinical psychologist is going to his preschool today to observe him for one hour. Actually it is going on right now!!! I'm so nervous. This Friday I will take him to her office for a 2 hour testing and where I will fill out forms about his history. Then the following week me and dh will go in to hear the results and receive reports.
I am trying to remain calm but just the waiting to find out part is difficult for me. My friend told me today to try and keep busy. I am going to see her daughter perform in the Nutcracker this Saturday so that will be nice for me. Anyone have ideas that have worked for them?
Wish us luck. I honestly have no idea what the outcome will be. Weird huh!
Molly (ds, Liam 4 1/2 years old)

Molly,
Welcome! I remember when we did the "waiting". It's hard...I know. I kept myself busy too, mostly by coming on here! lol I also just kept researching and learning more about autism. Mostly on the computer, but also thru books too. I had anticipated a PDD dx or perhaps hearing the dr say that he only had TRAITS of autism. Nathan was dx'd HFA when he was 5. It was hard getting the dx, even though I knew....deep down, I guess I knew. I mean, I came on this board about 3 months before the actual diagnosis.
Best of luck to you and your family. Let us know how the eval turns out!

Hi Molly! I remember you from the hypotonia board. My youngest dd has hypotonia too. I know how nerve-wracking waiting for a dx can be. I hope that you find this board as helpful as I have.

I am thinking about you. I just thought about you the other day and wanted to call but didn't have your number on me. I was going to check in and see how things are going. Of course, life is crazy and I barely checked in with my mom after she got home from her stint in the hospital over thanksgiving. Now that is bad. I was there the whole time she was in though so I guess I am not completely evil daughter.
Who did you decide to go with for the eval? It sounds from your post like Alice whatshername. I am SOOO bad with names, lol.
I will be thinking of you guys too and saying a prayer for you this week. We have Cait's update for her IEP on Friday as well and Mike's diagnostic center eval next week so it is a big week here too. Though I think the waiting has gotten easier. I don't envy your position right now.
BTW, had tooo much fun at the conference. We should go out again sometime. (Molly and I crashed the meet and greet. We are so bad, ROFL)

Welcome to the board Molly. The waiting was torture for me too. Try to take good care of yourself for the next couple of weeks so the stress doesn't make you sick. And remember a new dx doesn't change your ds at all, only provides new opprotunities. Hang in there.

Welcome to the board Molly!
The waiting is certainly the hardest.
Thank you all so much. I am overwhelmed by your responses! It helps to talk to those who know. I'll keep you posted.
Renee, I will call you tomorrow! We are going with Deborah Pontillo for testing. I didn't know about your mom, hope she is okay.

She is fine. It was a bad reaction to an antibiotic she was on. It sent her blood pressure through the roof and some other heart type symptoms but come to find out her heart is strong as an ox. Love that! She tends toward high BP a bit particularly when stressed and has digestive troubles from one of those bone meds they put her one a while ago (they put most women on). The antibiotic really affected her digestive troubles which sent her BP into overdrive etc. She is actually in great shape for a woman of 68 though.
I will look forward to your call. If I don't answer leave a message. I have work today and I will call you back between clients. I have a new phone and I think I only have your home number on it not your cell.
