Attending a PPT

At what age do you start including the child in the planning process? My aspie is in 7th grade and his home district (he attends a magnet school in another district) has invited him to the PPT in May. First, the home district has never even met him. The last year he was in the home district he was still in elementary school and he now "belongs" to the junior high although he has never gone to school there. Secondly, from a maturity level he is much "younger" than his chronological age. He also very fragile emotionally, i.e.. Very quick to cry when anxious or upset and I'm not sure how he would handle a frank discussion about his weaknesses. I guess my gut reaction is that high school would be a more appropriate time for him to be involved in the process and the conversations might be very different with him in the room. Another concern I have is that most of his IEP was ignored in the first and second marking period and I'm not sure that

We have never had our 13 year old attend IEP meetings, as our relationship with the home district is also difficult and the meetings are always held with yet another set of new staff people who have barely read over the material and half the meeting is spent getting everyone up to speed.

I've taught middle / high school & have encouraged parents to include the child in the meetings.
