Autism classification for IEP :)

Hi ladies!
One hurdle down, I'm sure many more to go, but I am feeling happy (at least for) tonight! We had Nick's MFE results at school today (evaluations) and their testing was inline with everything we had done at Children's already back in March and June. In addition, on the GADS and Connor's scales, our ratings and the teachers were very comparable. Also, the OT found there to be Sensory issues as well. We were very happy with this as we just got the dx from Childrens in the report on Monday as he tested very high for SPD. He was found eligible for services based on Autism as the main classification, secondary ADHD. Additional services will be provided for Speech, OT and sensory processing. His academics are very good so it will not be an academic based IEP. We will be getting a draft IEP tomorrow and meet next week to hopefully finalize it and get it in place. I'm sure someone was looking down on us this week....

Hi Lainie,

Interestingly enough, our school district is not so great, believe it or not, about getting services.

That's great to hear. I have a letter coming to me about Adam soon enough for Kindergarden......sigh

Funny cause Adam kinda falls like Nick on the intelligence level just his "quirks" get in his way----sigh

Hi Christine,

It looks like things are moving in the right direction for you and Nick. I am following your posts closely since Nick is also 5 and has ADHD as my son Justin. I have also started the process with his school to get him on an IEP. I just wrote a letter to the school with his PDD-NOS and ADHD diagnosis from the pediatric neurologist and the child psychologist attached to the letter to determine if he he eligible for IEP and services. Like Nick, Justin is doing well academically, so I hope they don't push back because they don't see academic issues. Justin also has SPD and zero organizational skills so he loses all his school supplies, forgets to bring home his homework, forgets his backpack, etc. I am hoping to address his social, behavioral, organizational, and adaptive skills via an IEP. BTW, is Nick on any medication? Justin is going to have an appointment to see how we can address his ADHD symptoms.

I'm glad everything is going well. Just something to keep in mind...Tom didn't have academic needs when we did his first IEP but as we got further into kindy we realized that his behaviors and quirks are affecting his ability to do the academic tasks.
