Renee started a thread that made me think.....

I have never spoken really what I thought about Autism Speaks, but here goes.

I'm upset that a mother said she actually thought of killing her autistic child, but the thing that stopped her was her other NT child....

I also belong to another autism site which has mostly adult autistics and they really put down Autism Speaks. They don't like them because they don't have acceptance, which their own parents didn't have acceptance.

Here's the link..... Tell me what you think.

"There is another side to this coin: There are some pretty radical autistic groups, run by Aspies/Auties, which kind of take the message too far the other way, IMHO."

I think these groups run by autistic people are fabulous. Who better to explain and raise awareness than autistics themselves. The attitude that autistic people cannot speak for themselves is archaic.

There are so many things wrong with Austism Speaks but one of the things that really bothers me is the amount of money they make. Then they purport to speak for my son, when I don't agree with a word they say.

How many of the autie run sites and groups are after donations? I've never seen one that accepts donations frankly. The autie run sites main purpose is to raise awareness, I can't fault them for that.

That video is a tad over the top, to say the least. But, you can't deny this woman is talking about killing her child *in*front*of* a child! Come on! Can no-one see how f*%$ed up that is? She may think if it's the autistic child in the back ground she doesn't understand what her mom is saying (the autistic child most certainly does understand). And if the child in the background is not the autistic one, should she be hearing her mom talk about her sister this way? It's messed up.
